Indian-origin British actor Dev Patel has received an Oscar nomination for his acting in Lion, which is set in India and Australia. The actor who is currently in Mumbai called up his mother informing her of the news, and her reaction is like how any mother’s in the world will be – ecstatic!
The Hollywood Reporter talked to Dev about his nomination and he said, “I just talked to my mum in London and she is screaming and crying and people are looking into her office to see what’s wrong,” Well, indeed it is the kind of a moment where one can have trouble gaining composure. Go all out Mrs Patel! Be a desi mom! “These nominations only mean we will get more butts in the seats for a movie that talks about something that is very important — those lost children on the streets on India.” Dev added.
Lion, based on Saroo Brierley’s best-selling autobiography A Long Way Home, is a true story about an Indian boy who falls asleep on a train only to wake up and realise he is miles away from home in a strange land where he does not speak the language. He experiences many challenges before getting adopted by a couple in Australia. Years later, he sets out to find his lost family.
