Malayalam Movie industry is going through one of the worst times with the ongoing feud between the Producers and Distributor’s association and the Exhibitor’s group, that have resulted in the stalling of all the Christmas movies. The issue was all about the demand of exhibitors for 50-50 revenue share from all box office collections, which the other association have strongly opposed. Now as per certain reports, Exhibitors Federation president, Liberty Basheer have now accused the head of the Producers’ association, G Sureshkumar of deliberately stalling for a common solution so that no Malayalam movie releases this weekend. This, he alleges, will help for the smooth and unchallenged release of Vijay’s Bairavaa, which has Sureshkumar’s daughter Keerthy Suresh as the female lead.
Though Malayalam movies are not able to release due to this feud, with even the films that have already been released earlier like Kattapaniyile Rithwik Roshan also been taken off. Bairavaa, strangely will only be releasing in the second week of January next year on the occasion of Pongal. Basheer revealed that that Bairavaa was supposed to get less than 100 screens at present but if the strike continues it will be released on over 200 screens across the state. Currently Aamir Khan’s Dangal is having a free run at Kerala box office, since there is no Malayalam movie to compete with it.
However, Siyad Kokker, president of the Kerala Film Distributors Association has accused Basheer of doing things detrimental to the industry. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, he said, “Though a section of the exhibitors is working against the interests of the sector, a large number of them are not supported Mr Basheer and wants an amicable settlement. However, they are reluctant to speak against the Federation president.”
Anyways, here’s the trailer of the movie in contention, Bairavaa…
The ongoing strike have affected the release of Mohanlal’s Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol, Dulquer Salmaan’s Jomonte Suvisheshangal, Prithviraj’s Ezra and Jayasurya’s Fukri.
