Every year, for as long as I can remember, my new year resolution is to lose weight. Also, every year-end while pouring yet another glass of wine and eating yet another slice of pizza during the numerours parties and gatherings there is this little piece of me sitting in guilt, regret and failure. This year is different though! Don’t get me wrong, I’m no where close to my goal but I have started the journey. I’m somewhere in the middle, lost about 10kg and still have a lot to go.
I decided to write about it since many friends have been asking about what I’m doing to lose weight, it must be a new crazy Diet that makes you count every gram of Food or a weekly fitness bootcamp that gives you aches for a week!
In all honesty, I am not on a diet or a strict Exercise regime, this doesn’t mean I don’t watch what I eat or that I don’t exercise. At the risk of sounding like a hippy, I am learning to ‘listen to my body’. I do not have a diet plan or written out portions but I am learning to read learning satiety signals. It’ll take more than one post to explain. I’ll give the highlights in this post though.
Food – goes without saying, all processed, packaged food and beverages are out. I eat what I have grown up eating, roti sabzi dal for most meals. Many work day lunches I try to eat a salad or soup. I prefer eating plant based food for most meals. I will share many posts about this and also many recipes.
Exercise – I wear a steps tracker and ensure I do at least 7000 steps every day. Nothing fancy, I have a Mi-fit that I got for $30. I do yoga at least once a week. Every bit counts, so whenever I have 15min I do a it of exercise. For every 30min that I sit I walk about for at least 3min. Again, I’ll share some more in subsequent posts.
Timing – there is nothing, and I mean it when I say it that I am depriving myself of. However, the timing of the food is important. By rule, I eat dinner before 8pm, and no snacks after that. I do not eat a dessert after dinner. I eat at very regular intervals, every 3hrs max. Will share more.
Those are the general rules and guidelines. I’ll try to share more, details of foods and exercise and some recipes too. Ciao!
