Quilting In The Hoop Projects For Everyone

By Pamela Foster

Using embroidery machines to make quilts can be one of the most relaxing, fun, and rewarding experiences for any creator of fine crafts, or someone who is just trying out the art for fun. There is a wide range of project that a person can create by Quilting in the hoop, and people of all levels of experience are able to join in on the fun. There are three primary methods of creating quilts in this way, and each one has its own specific strengths.

Making a quilt block by block means that the embroidery is taken care of first. This makes it easy to take care of what goes on top first. Once the other layers have been added, it is time for the stitches for the quilt to be added.

The common way to refer to one of the most popular methods of hooping the fabric of a quilt is as a fabric sandwich. This is simply because there are multiple layers of fabric that go one on top of the other that are stitched together to help hold all the other pieces together. Usually, this will mean that one layer is the fabric that is being used, the next is the insulator or batting that goes in the middle, and a stabilizer is used to help keep everything still.

Hooping the stabilizer as well as the fabric when going with the block by block technique is the best way to ensure that everything will stay exactly where it needs to be. This makes it easy to use applique. After all of this is done, securing the backing and batting will complete the quilt.

Some quilters prefer to get the stitches for both embroidering and quilting done at the same time. The process of doing it this way is quite similar to the block by block technique and can work well for applique. It is important to make sure that proper placement techniques are used, and that a person has a full understanding of how to join all the layers together and get the quilt to bind before starting.

The online community of crafters has been a great asset in the development of the various techniques used to make beautiful quilts. Quite a few individuals have taken the initiative to find innovative ways to create these things that work better for others and have posted about it online. A lot can be learned by scrolling and clicking through these posts and tutorials.

It is hard to keep up with all of your projects for those who find themselves crafting constantly, or for those who have busy and hectic lives. It's easy for a project to fall to the wayside and never get finished, with many spare scraps and pieces left over that were never used. Finding small and easy projects like table runners and baby quilts are a great way to make use of these extra pieces.

No one likes it when stitches come out looking messy and poor. Sometimes it can seem like the stitches are going well, but then when the quilt is flipped over it is an entirely different story. That is why making sure to use the right amount of thread tension can make all the difference when it comes to these projects.
