How To Earn Extra Cash By Selling The Wholesale Christmas Trees New Jersey Farms Grow

By Karen Jones

A lot of people get to the end of the year and feel cash strapped. One great way to get in the holiday spirit, and earn some extra money, is to rent a local lot and fill it with the Wholesale Christmas Trees New Jersey farmers grow. This is a popular idea, but not everyone makes a success of it. If you plan ahead and take some advice from the pros, your lot could be the most popular place to buy a tree this season.

A common mistake some lots make is opening too early. The day after Thanksgiving may be a tempting time, but plants can dry out before the Christmas holiday actually arrives. Waiting until the first week of December has advantages. You will have a fresher product and spend less money on labor. You can always start advertising right after Thanksgiving.

You will probably have plenty of competition, so you have to do things to make your lot stand out. Having extended hours on weekday evenings and opening all day Saturday and Sunday is a convenience working families will appreciate. Decorating your fence with signs, lights, and garlands will give the lot a festive look. Making sure the lot is well lit gives customers a sense of security and the ability to see the plants clearly.

You need to give some thought to how you place the plants on the lot. Grouping them by variety is better than just setting the plants up in rows with no order to them. Most people want a certain type of tree, and you should make it as easy as possible for them to find what they are looking for. Bunching plants too close together will make it hard for customers to walk all the way around a potential purchase.

You are going to need saws, pruning shears, and loppers to remove branches for buyers. A chainsaw will be helpful for cutting off the ends of trunks. Big trash cans will help keep the lot from getting cluttered with paper and branches. Of course, you will also need small supplies like twine, pens, paper, cord, rope and tape.

There are things you can do to stand out from the competition. Be the first in the area to set aside a number of trees and donate them to local community organizations that decorate for families in need. You could offer to delivery to those who are home bound, and pick the same trees up for free after the holidays. Fireproofing may be required, but if it is not, this is a good service to offer customers.

On December 26, you need to start cleaning up and preparing to remove your business from the lot. Making sure it is in pristine condition before you leave will make a good impression on the owner. Make sure all the staff has been paid and the rent is up to date before you shut down for the year.

A seasonal business can be a real money maker. You have to think ahead however and market your business in a creative way. Even seasonal customers can be loyal, and if you are lucky, you might see some familiar faces next year.
