Okay, I admit it: I am months late to this party lol. But, if you haven't heard it, yet, let me be the one to say that you must listen! I'm talking about Beyonce's Break My Soul, The Queen's Mix - a collaboration with Madonna - and featuring the song, Vogue, in a brilliant mix with the song, Break My Soul, produced by The Dream and Tricky Stewart.
Let me first say that I consider myself a HUGE fan of both women and feel that each have contributed so much to music in their own unique ways. The road to success is never easy and each of these women had unique hurdles to clear on their way up but each of them made it. And, are still making it! The difference are clear but the commonality? Neither young lady would take 'no' for an answer.
The Queen's Mix pays homage to all of the black singers that paved the way for so many others to follow, including Ms M., and in my opinion, it's amazing! Well deserved shout-outs to women like Janet (Jackson), Sadé, Anita Baker and Grace Jones, to name only a few. Pull up to the bumper, baby...
The first time I heard Break My Soul, I could pinpoint a sound in the intro that reminded me of something I heard in dance tracks of the 1990's but I couldn't put my finger on specifically what songs. All I knew was that I was familiar with a certain sound and I liked it! It's a sound that makes me want to run out to the middle of a dance floor, take off my shirt and DANCE! Was it Cece Peniston's Finally or something from C&C Music Factory? And then it hit me: the sound was from the song Show Me Love, by Robyn S. and Sondeville (which is still a bad-ass song to dance to!). If you're someone who remembers being on the dance floor in the nineties, this is the song for you!
