Excellent characterisation and a wry sense of humour populate the work of illustrator Andrea Chronopoulos

Andrea Chronopoulos is a Greek/Italian illustrator based in Rome and founding member of the rather excellent Studio Pilar. Having graduated in illustration and 2D animation at the European Institute of Design of Rome in 2011, he's racked up an impressive client list including Fred Perry, The New York Times, Lucky Peach, London's Natural History Museum and Anorak Magazine, Hello Hull, Esquire (Italy), Dog Magazine, Donna Moderna, SIAE VivaVerdi magazine, L'Ultimo.

It's not hard to see why his work is so eminently commissionable, especially for editorial work: the characters that populate his images are simply drawn but superbly expressive. He manages to weave bright, bold colours into banal situations and imbues almost everything he does with a wry sense of humour.

Chronopoulos was recently selected for the Illustrators 60 editorial category by New York's Society of Illustrators, and we're expecting to see a lot more of this rad work in 2018.
