Convergence: Yoni Alter's colourful 3D puzzle of a New York City intersection

Take a closer look at this Colourful wooden puzzle, and you'll spot something familiar. Can you see it? Have you worked it out yet? This delightful toy, hand-crafted by London artist and designer Yoni Alter, is based on an aerial view of an intersection in New York City's Midtown East, which includes Park Avenue.

Handmade in London from a "fine piece of local sycamore", the base is a single piece of wood which was carved out using a CNC machine. The base and the pieces were then hand-finished and hand-painted. It's a one-off piece, available to buy online.

Yoni studied art and design in Jerusalem before completing his MA Graphic Design at the University of the Arts London, and has since called London 'home', constantly using the city as a source of inspiration. Indeed, Yoni's debut show at Kemistry Gallery was motivated by the city's urban landscapes.

His colourful depictions of London's architecture have led him to create art for London's new TV channel, and he's also behind a best-selling range for Tate. Check out his ongoing Shapes of Cities series, all 60 cities are available to buy as prints. Or discover more of his work at yoniishappy.com.
