Friendly and flexible: New handmade font Sofa Sans

Created by Austrian type designer Georg Herold-Wildfellner, Sofa Sans is a new hand-drawn, all-caps, display-family font. With a friendly and eye-catching character, it could serve as a good choice for creating customised headings in editorial and cover designs.

Interestingly, Herold-Wildfellner has created eight different Rs for each style. These include a standard R, a contextual alternates R, an OT-Swashes R, and five OT-Titling "super-swashy" Rs, which are designed to automatically adjust themselves to available white space.

Sofa Sans comes in four weights, from a monolinear Thin to Black and 18 styles, including shadow-, 3D-, inline- and hatched-styles as well as five layer fonts. There are two optical sizes (Standard and Display), several OpenType features, including Swashes- and Titling-Alternates, and an extensive character set. It's currently available with an 80 per cent discount at MyFonts (ends April 14).
