Nascar - Richard Childress Racing has appealed sanctions against it, Ryan Newman, and other team members of the No. 31 Car resulting from tire audits (NASCAR has audited tires from numerous teams at numerous races this year) after the Auto Club Speedway race showing what NASCAR deemed to be violations of its tire pressure rule which permits release of tire pressures only through normal adjustments. RCR also asked that any sanctions be deferred until after its appeal is decided.
After the Auto Club 400 audit, NASCAR reduced owner points and Newman’s driver points by 75, fined crew chief Luke Lambert $125,000, suspended Lambert along with team members James Bender and Philip Surgen, for six races, and placed Lambert, Bender and Surgen on probation until the end of the year. The loss of points caused Newman to drop 20 spots in the overall points race from 6th to 26th.
NASCAR agreed to defer all sanctions except for the points reduction until the appeal is heard.
