If the Bremen start in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup at Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night (kickoff 20.45 clock), then do so with the feeling that statistically nothing can go wrong against the Werkself. At least not in the DFB Cup.
Half a dozen times, the two teams have faced each other in the Bremen favorite competition, and always the winner was SV Werder. A review of the six victories.
18th December 1976, 2nd round: Werder Bremen - Bayer Leverkusen 3: 0
Leverkusen is still second division and has no chance in Bremen. Only 4,000 spectators lost in the Weserstadion and see after a meager first half goals by Jürgen Röber (49), Werner Görts (65) and Karlheinz Meininger (76).
10 May 1989, semi-final: Bayer Leverkusen - Werder Bremen 1: 2The game serves Werder for the purpose of coping with frustration - for two reasons. Shortly before, the reigning champion had lost his chance to defend the title. In addition, with Leverkusen still an account open, because in the preseason, the Werkself had prevailed in the semi-finals of the Uefa Cup against Bremen (and eventually won the trophy).
Werder is therefore looking for revenge and cheers in the end thanks to Dieter Eilts. With his first competitive goal in Bremen jersey, he shoots his team three minutes before the end of the game to Berlin. Before that Leverkusen's Andrzej Buncol (54 ') had equalized the Bremen lead by Rune Bratseth (21st). By the way Werder lost 1-4 to Borussia Dortmund.

Shortly before the break Werder striker Bruno Labbadia flies after a foul on Christian Wörns from the square, then a goal by Marco Bode is not recognized - and in added time squeezes Leverkusen Erik Meijer a dubious penalty to the crossbar.
Rene Rydlewicz for the guests and then Rodolfo Cardoso for Werder. On penalties, all five Bremen players will be transformed, while keeper Oliver Reck will be a match winner against Wörns.
22nd September 2004, 2nd round: Werder Bremen - Bayer LeverkusenAs a double winner Werder arrives and will do justice to his role as a favorite against an extremely replacement-weakened Bayer team. Johan Micoud (5th) and Nelson Valdez with a brace (55th, 58th) scored the goals. Marko Babic (17th) and Dimitar Berbatow (69th), but with their goals for tension until the end.
