The General Overseer of Salvation Ministries Hour of Salvation (SMHOS), Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has said Christians should not pick a spouse who is not ready to make sacrifices for God.
The pentecostal leader gave the admonishment in his church during a sermon. Citing the focus of his message from the story of Rebecca and Abraham's servant in the book of Genesis 24:12–20, the cleric said the best way to find a spouse is by observing how he or she serves God.

While emphasizing the need to marry a spouse that would serve God, David Ibiyeomie drew an analogy between the biblical Rebecca and the modern-day believer, stating that just like Rebecca went all out to serve Abraham's servant and was picked for marriage, Christians should marry those who serve God wholeheartedly without hypocrisy.
His words:
"If you want to marry a good person, look at how the person serves God.
"Believers, do not marry a wife or husband who is not sacrificial.
"Your wife should be somebody who would go all out to do something for God without eye service.
"She (Rebecca) was not looking for a husband, there was no personality in him (Abraham's servant).
"But she (Rebecca) gave water to his camels, and he (Abraham's servant) said this is the woman.
"When considering marriage, look for someone who serves God genuinely without any pretense."
Explaining his reason for his statement, he disclosed that the greatest quality of a man or woman is his/her ability to serve God without eye service.
