27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have today, December 11, 2023, defected from the main opposition party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

The Rivers State Lawmakers, who are believed to be loyal to the past governor of the state and the current minister of the FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike, announced their position today.
In a video now circulating on social media, the lawmakers led by Martin Amaewhule raised the flag of the APC while singing, 'On your mandate, we shall stand Jagaban (Tinubu).'
The lawmakers gave their reasons for defecting to the APC as a result of the division and crisis in the PDP. The Rivers State House of Assembly complex was also manned by heavily armed security men.
