Shown preparing to place the lamp on the crossing gate at Horsham Station, Miss Scanlon had been highly commended for detecting and reporting a hot box on a passing goods train. Her parents, also gatekeepers at Horsham, relocated from Dimboola, proving that many Victorian Railway employees were second-generation railwaymen and women.

This cover is an example of early success in championing women in the workforce. Still, I bet poor Carmel wishes she hadn't blinked.
