Hey all, we’ve got some theatre news for your today and this is great for those of you that love theatre, the 80s and the amazing music of Marc Bolen, with the news of two amazing shows that are heading to Venue Cymru in Llandudno, North Wales.
So for starters, there is Fame – The Musical which is set to tour the UK this year in a stunning new 30th Anniversary tour, opening at Manchester Palace Theatre on 20th July 2018.
With seven West End runs since opening in Miami in 1988 Fame continues to be one of the best-loved musicals in the world.
Based on the 1980 phenomenal pop culture film, Fame – The Musical is the international smash hit sensation following the lives of students at New York’s High School For The Performing Arts as they navigate their way through the highs and lows, the romances and the heartbreaks and the ultimate elation of life. This bittersweet but uplifting triumph of a show explores the issues that confront many young people today: prejudice, identity, pride, literacy, sexuality, substance abuse and perseverance.
Presented by Selladoor Worldwide, the producers of Footloose, Avenue Q, Little Shop of Horrors and Flashdance – The Musical, with Adam Paulden and Dan Looney. Directed and choreographed by Nick Winston with design by Morgan Large with casting to be announced.
David Hutchinson, Executive Creative Director of Selladoor says “This new tour for 2018 celebrates the 30 years since the premiere of the production and will very much have its roots in the style and nostalgia of the original musical.
Selladoor are dedicated to bringing large scale theatre to as broad an audience as possible across the UK and internationally and we’re delighted to add another classic musical to our ever-growing portfolio.
Featuring the Oscar-winning title song and a cast of outstanding dancers, singers, musicians and rappers as they transform from star-struck pupils to superstars, Fame – The Musical will indeed live forever.
Fame – The Musical takes to the stage at Venue Cymru from Monday 6th August to Saturday 11th August 2018. Tickets on sale from 10.00am, Tuesday 16th January 2018 from www.venuecymru.co.uk, www.fameuktour.co.uk or via the Box Office on 01492 872000.
But before the dizzy heights of Fame – The Musical, you can be delighted with the smash-hit musical, 20th Century Boy, returns in 2018 for a 40th Anniversary tour.
Inspired by the life of rock legend Marc Bolan, 20th Century Boy hits the stage once again to mark the 40th anniversary of the iconic star’s untimely death.
At his peak, Bolan was arguably the biggest rock star the UK has ever seen. Rocker, poet, electric warrior, king of glam and godfather of punk he became a superstar and the press dubbed him “Bigger than the Beatles”. Before his tragic death in 1977, a few days short of his 30th birthday, Bolan lived life at breakneck speed, creating a series of iconic images, a string of number one hits and an army of obsessive fans.
The hit musical, 20th Century Boy, features some of the greatest rock songs ever written including Ride A White Swan, Metal Guru, I Love To Boogie, 20th Century Boy and many more. Telling the life story of the legendary Marc Bolan and his band T.Rex, the show exposes some of the myths and takes the audience of a tearful yet feel-good journey through Marc’s fascinating life, cut short by a cruel twist of fate.
20th Century Boy is a glorious celebration of glam rock at its colourful best!
20th Century Boy comes to Venue Cymru Thursday 14th June to Saturday 16th June 2018. Tickets go on sale Wednesday 17th January 2018, 10.00am via www.venuecymru.co.uk and through the Box Office on 01492 872000.
