Baby Driver tells the story of a “Baby“, after being coerced into working for a crime boss, the young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.

From Edgar Wright, the director of Hot Fuzz, comes a movie that has mixed an all out action movie with breathtaking car chases, humour and one hell of a soundtrack that is beautifully edited into the scenes of the movie to create something that is not only a pleasure to watch but also has your heart thumping and your toes tapping.

Right from the very start of Baby Driver the film lifts you up, as Baby and the crew stop to do a heist, Baby stays in the car ready for the getaway, he selects Bellbottoms by The John Spencer Blues Experience and sings along and drops some moves in the car, with a great track to start the film with and Baby (Ansel Elgort) showing that this movie is going to rock, how could we not look forward to more.

As the story progresses, we are treated to some outstanding chase sequences throughout the movie, but it’s not all about the driving, Baby Driver is the story of Baby, how he got to where he is now, why he is on the wrong side of the law and the predicaments that he faces, especially when he meets Bats (played by Jamie Foxx), this is where things take a turn for the worse!

Along Baby’s journey, he meets Debora (beautifully played by Lily James), this is where we have the romance part of the movie, but don’t worry this doesn’t break the flow or the mood of the film, this just adds to the perfection of Wright’s writing and directing, show that he can produce a polished movie.

The characters in Baby Driver are written with passions, Kevin Spacey as Doc comes across with a form of you know you don’t want to like him, but you feel that he is trying to get back what Baby owes him, but at the same time he’s using him for everything he can as he’s the best driver he’s ever met.

I loved John Hamm as Buddy and the onscreen chemistry he had with Darling (Eiza González), the writing for this pair was brilliant.

Baby Driver is a great change from a lot of the movies that we have been seeing in cinemas lately, this is a movie that you can watch time and time again, Edgar Wright has brought something fresh to the genre, by using the music not just as a soundtrack for the movie, but as part of the film, with each track being used perfectly in the scenes that it is used in via Baby’s iPod.

To be honest, there isn’t really anything I can fault the film on, Baby Driver certainly deserves full marks from me, this movie is a modern day Bullitt, the car chases are certainly on par with the famous classic Steve McQueen car chase in Bullitt and maybe Baby Driver will be remembered for not only its great car scenes but also the well-written structure and direction from Edgar Wright.

This is a film that you really don’t want to miss on the big screen, it looks great and sounds great, the DD7.1 sounds used to full effect with not only sound effects but also used brilliantly as character walk of screen past the camera to the left, right and centre rear of the cinema.

For me Baby Driver is the best film so far this year, go see it, enjoy it and most of all have loads of fun.
