Soldier killed by gunmen in the hamlet of Abia

Additionally, it was reported that two of the shooters were murdered by soldiers after they responded to a distress call from a comrade who managed to flee from being Killed in the Ebem hamlet.

Before being shot and killed by gunmen who followed him to the village, the deceased soldier was reportedly in the area running an errand.

During the gunfight, a stray bullet struck Miss Chinenye Ajunwa, a shop owner from Amuta in the Isuikwuato local government area who lived in Ohafia.

The woman, who was present during the gunfight with her father, passed away before assistance could reach her.

The incident spread anxiety throughout the neighborhood, leading some business owners to close their doors out of concern for a potential invasion.

According to a source in the Ebem who confirmed the occurrence, the locals were shocked by the gun duel and expressed their sorrow over the soldier’s death.

Innocent Omale, the 14 Brigade’s Army Public Relations Officer (APRO), could not be reached for comment, but a source within the Brigade who requested anonymity corroborated the occurrence.

The source claims that the soldier who was saved was riding a commercial motorcycle to the Ebem market to buy groceries when he became aware that a bunch of armed boys was following him.

“He heard when the gunmen were asking about a soldier that Okada just brought and quickly hide somewhere and from his hideout, he sent an SOS message to the Brigade.

“Soldiers were mobilized for his rescue and the gunmen who are members of Eastern Security Network (ESN) engaged the soldiers.

“Two of them were killed. A pump action gun, cutlasses, and two motorbikes belonging to the gunmen were recovered from them.

“It was while the soldiers were on patrol in the community, after rescuing the other soldier, that they discovered that the gunmen had killed a soldier in the same community.”

Hours after the incident, according to information obtained by our journalist, the neighborhood has returned to normal.
