Tattoo removal & best options for it – Dr. Priyanka Dasari Reddy

When tattooing the ink is deposited deep into the skin in the dermal layer of the skin, which is beneath the epidermis, which is not accessible. So none of the creams or ointments will help in depigmenting the ink. What are the options you have when you want to get rid of the ink. When you want to go the surgical way, there is excision, that is cutting of the tattoo part of the skin and approximating the skin and suturing and there is skin grafting, that is covering of the skin with another layer of skin taken from elsewhere form your own body. The most famous way is the Laser Tattoo Removal. It works when the laser light penetrates deep into the dermal layer of the skin and breaks the ink and the body recognizes this as foreign particles and the body’s scavengers eliminate this from the lymphatic system, thus eliminating from the body, but this requires multiple sessions. It requires 6 to 10 sessions depending on the size of the tattoo, the colours that are involved in the tattoo and the site of the tattoo. During the laser tattoo removal depending on the site and the size of the tattoo, a local anaesthesia may need used or might or be used, if it is used then we have to wait for 30 to 40 minutes till it acts and the laser tattoo removal procedure is done. The duration between each session lasts anywhere between 1 month to 2 months depending upon the size of the tattoo again. During the procedure we may experience a mild discomfort in the treated area and post procedure, you may have to use post procedural skin care products after the treatment. The outcome of the laser tattoo removal depends upon the size of the tattoo , the site of the tattoo and the colours that the tattoo have a black tattoo might require only 6 sessions, but a multicolour tattoo, there is a possibility of ghost images on the treated area, that is the shadows of the tattoo are expected to remain over the treated area. We shave the hair on the treatment area. We wear a protective eye wear to both the patient and the doctor who is treating the patient. There is a little splutter or sound that comes during treatment and patient may feel discomfort. Post procedure depending on the inflammation and the redness of the skin we either apply an anti-inflammatory cream or a skin something or moisturising cream.
