Overlord Season 4 Episode 6 Review- The Council Shall Decide Your Fate

The worldbuilding of Overlord has always been its best aspect and is astonishingly polished even for being so high quality. There is a lot of weight given to even the most insignificant of characters, making their portrayal as real as it would be in this situation. Each line of dialogue and each major decision has been carefully thought through and fitted to be how someone in that position and of that mentality would act. There is a lot of nuance to the decisions made here, giving this show an otherworldly yet believable feel that very few similar isekais can replicate.

What has brought this string of compliments to the show this time around is the entire presentation of the dwarves and their kingdom. Not only did it build their entire tribe up with only one member previously revealed, but it also made us empathise with their cause and tell us all of what they were about in an extremely short amount of time. If that doesn’t scream good writing, nothing else does. The dwarves are extraordinarily relatable, and most of us can understand what they are going through at this moment in the show, making them very sympathetic characters.

While some of that could be attributed to our previous understanding of dwarven culture based on their portrayal in other mediums, Overlord’s somewhat unique take hits the mark just right. Not just that, it introduced a lot of different characters that belonged to that tribe and told us what they were about in one line of dialogue each, with Gordo remaining the fantastic character he was introduced as. His mission of saving the one artform his people are good at remains one of the better motivations in the show.

It was also extremely easy to generate sympathy for them because of the senseless massacre they were battling every day from a group that forced them to move out of their own land while killing many among their number. It’s no wonder Ainz’s help was very welcome in the dwarven land; their entire culture was at stake. While this doesn’t say much about their attackers and how they are seemingly just mindless killing machines, the show accomplished what it set out to do very well.

It was a pretty standard and uneventful episode apart from the Goblin-Undead talk, but Overlord Season 4 Episode 6 also made Ainz look good in front of his subordinates once again. Apparently, he was back in his extraordinarily capable mode. However, the show did a good enough job in attributing it to his guildmates again, alongside showcasing his immature and underconfident side a bit. There were many great setups here for the future episodes, and it also worked very well as a standalone episode because of the situation with the goblins.

Verdict

Overlord Season 4 Episode 6 was another great episode that had some of the best characterisations in the show so far and a neat little plotline that makes a lot of sense in the grand scheme of things. The Kingdom Of Magic continues to get stronger.
