The Best Cartoons like Gravity Falls to Watch Right Now

Gravity Falls is one of the best cartoon series to come out of Disney in the last ten years. With a mix of magical creatures, excellent characters, and just the right amount of mystery, every season of this animated show was fantastic. Unfortunately, creator Alex Hirsch decided to definitively end the series after it’s second season.

Since there is never going to be a Gravity Falls season 3, the next best thing to watch is more cartoons similar to Gravity Falls. We’ve gathered 8 of the best options you can currently stream, and all of them are fantastically weird and wonderful.

Hilda

Creators: Kurt Mueller, Luke Pearson, Stephanie Simpson
Total Episodes: 26
IMDb Rating: 8.6

Hilda is one of those cartoons that consistently surprises you. The story follows a young girl named Hilda as she travels from her home in a vast magical wilderness to the busy city of Trollberg. With pleasant British accents and dangerous adventures, this is one of the absolute best cartoons you can right now.

With 2 great seasons and surprising depth, you’ll likely be left wanting more by the end of it. It’s one of the best cartoons on Netflix right now.

Star vs. The Forces of Evil

Creators: Daron Nefcy, David Wasson, Jordana Arkin
Total Episodes: 77
IMDb Rating: 8.0

Star vs. The Forces of Evil takes a unique spin on the princess genre. As a Disney cartoons, it is similar in many ways to Gravity Falls. The art style, the humor, and the occasional ridiculous dialogue make this an excellent animated series.

The story follows Star, a young princess who is just starting to master her own magical power, which we uses in some of the most ridiculous ways. Though she was originally born in a magical alternate universe, she makes her way to earth to stay with the Diaz family and fight monsters. Her best friend, Marco, is a careful young man who finds himself finally using his karate abilities to help her battle the forces of evil.

With 4 seasons on Disney+, this series starts off incredibly silly and matures over time as the characters grow.

Regular Show

Creator: J.G. Quintel
Total Episodes: 245
IMDb Rating: 8.4

Regular Show is irreverent and wonderful. The plot follows Mordecai and Rigby, two animal characters who are just trying to live their mediocre lives working at a golf course. Though the setting seems to be at least mildly based in reality, crazy, over-the-top situations happen to the pair every single day.

Although the plot isn’t all that similar to Gravity Falls, this series offers a similar level of absurdity and explained magical phenomenon. Each episodes is influenced by both the mundane and supernatural problems of the main characters.

You can watch all 8 seasons of Regular Show on Hulu right now if you have a subscription.

Amphibia

Creator: Matt Braly
Total Episodes: 45
IMDb Rating: 8.1

Another Disney channel original, Amphibia is the perfect blend of silly and serious. The series follows a fearlessly independent girl named Anne after she gets magically transported to a universe ruled by amphibians. Though it isn’t until she befriends a wacky family of farming frogs that her adventure truly begins.

Amphibia follows similar patterns to Isekai anime in that you get to experience this new world through the eyes of the main character. If you’re looking for dialogue similar to the earlier seasons of Gravity Falls, this is a good option.

You can watch all 3 seasons of Amphibia on Disney+ right now if you have a subscription.

Adventure Time

Creator: Pendleton Ward
Total Episodes: 289
IMDb Rating: 8.6

If you’re not familiar with Adventure Time, it’s an off-beat and occasionally emotionally charged cartoon about a boy and his dog. Only the boy is one of the last humans in existence and the dog is magically stretchy. With the same voice actor as Bender (John DiMaggio) playing Jake the Dog, it’s a great series to dig into if you’re ready to move on from Futurama.

You can currently watch all 10 seasons of Adventure Time on Hulu and take a look at the spin-off mini-series available on HBO right now. We’ve also found some of the best shows like Adventure Time if you want to dive even deeper.

Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts

Creators: Radford Sechrist, Bill Wolkoff
Total Episodes: 30 episodes
IMDb Rating: 8.4

Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts is an action-packed sci-fi adventure the whole family should start binging. The plot follows Kipo, a young girl who finds herself stranded on the surface of a post-apocalyptic world searching for her father. Unfortunately, humans are no longer the dominant species as mutated animals and insects have taken over.

All 3 seasons now available on Netflix right now if you have a subscription.

Rick and Morty

Creators: Dan Harmon
Total Episodes: 289
IMDb Rating: 8.6

Rick and Morty has consistently been one of the best adult cartoons since it first came out. It offers ridiculous comedic concepts, interdimensional travel, and a lot of adult themes not suitable for children. The main reason it’s similar to Gravity Falls is because of how well it blends the mundane with the absurd.

The story is fairly straightforward. Rick Sanchez is a genius inventor who has mastered interdimensional travel, space travel, and just about everything else mankind is potentially capable of. He and his grandson, Morty, go on ridiculous adventures that often result in complete chaos and deaths of some sort.

There are currently 5 seasons available and you can watch them all for free directly from Cartoon Network. You can also take a look at our list of shows like Rick and Morty for more options like this.

Glitch Techs

Creators: Dan Milano, Eric Robles
Total Episodes: 19
IMDb: 7.8

Glitch Techs was born out of Netflix’s partnership with Nickelodeon and you can really see it in the art style. The plot follows the adventures of two gamers who stumble upon a secret group of tech support employees who are responsible for fighting gaming glitches that have found their way into real life. With tons of gaming references and some solid storylines and great dialogue, it’s one of those cartoons the whole family can enjoy.
