5 Ways Dragon Age 4 Could Be Better Than Inquisition

Though Dragon Age: Inquisition wasn’t my absolute favorite Dragon Age game, it did check a lot of boxes for me as a fan of the series. With the feeling of an open-world RPG mixed with the deep and meaningful character building, games like Dragon Age: Inquisition don’t come around all that often. That being said, I find myself expecting a lot more out of Dragon Age 4 when it finally arrives.

Though we don’t have an overwhelming amount of details about Dragon Age 4, it does seem like an excellent chance to learn from some of the mistakes it’s already made. Based on existing rumors about the games, here are 5 ways I think the next Dragon Age game could be the better than Inquisition.

1. It Could Take Place in Tevinter

Though it isn’t known for sure, it’s highly likely that Dragon Age 4 will be taking place in Tevinter. This was very much alluded to at near the end of of the Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC, Trespasser, so it’s highly likely this will be the setting for Bioware’s latest game in the series.

This is potentially exciting because the Tevinter Imperium is one of the oldest human nations in Thedas. And considering they are ruled by a magocracy, exploring this area is sure to be filled with loads of magic and history. If you’re a fan of some rich lore based in a fantasy realm, the one place you’re going to find a deep look into the beginnings of Thedas is Tevinter.

2. Mages Could be the Main Plot Line

This may be a personal preference, but my favorite part of any of the Dragon Age game was diving into the mistakes of human mages. In Dragon Age: Origins we got the chance to dive into the Fade and witness the abominations bred by human weakness. In Dragon Age 2 we go the chance to witness the destructive powers of Lyrium, and in Inquistion we saw full-blown rips between the Fade and the mortal world. Yet, we have never had a plot dedicated to the mages themselves.

There is a lot to explore here, especially if the story is taking place in Tevinter. Magic is an unrelenting force in this fictional world, and any people with a long history of exposure to it are likely to have an incredibly interesting backstory influenced by demons.

3. Deeper Connections With Party Members

One of the best parts about any of the most popular Bioware games is the characters that surround you. Diving deep into the unique and interesting personalities of your companions is an excellent way to feel more connected to the game overall. All of the titles in this series have done a pretty good job of letting you progress naturally through character development, but in my opinion, it should go even further.

With memorable companions like Varric, Morrigan, and Solas spanning through multiple games in the series, I’m hoping we get to see all of them again in Dragon Age 4. I am also hoping to be able to build deeper connections with new characters via more complex dialogue options.

4. Provide More Control Over The Storyline

In games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, Bioware has offered players a certain degree of control over the storyline. How you interact with your companions and sides you choose to take have will always change the outcome of your gameplay. So naturally, I expect Dragon Age 4 to expand upon this concept by providing even more control over the storyline than any of the previous titles.

An an ideal world, this would mean more than just multiple endings based on your choices. What I would want to see is having to constantly make decisions that could potentially change how the story plays out. If every conversation you have has the potential to impact your gameplay, then I’d see it as an absolute win.

5. A More Memorable Sountrack

Is there anything more enticing than an epic video game soundtrack that you can’t get enough of? With games like Skyrim leaning heavily into glorious music that gets your blood pumping, it makes sense for any publisher to want to do something similar. Yet so far, I have not been impressed with any of the music from Dragon Age games.

That’s not to say that I haven’t enjoyed the soundscapes that these titles have provided, I just didn’t form any specific memories from them. If there’s one simple, but effective way Dragon Age 4 could blow me away, it’s with a soundtrack that I have no choice but to download for later listening.
