Photography Project Themes That Will Get You Motivated for the New Year

A new year is here and it’s a great time to take your Photography to the next level. The right photography projects can help you do that, and they will keep you inspired to shoot. If you are looking for photography project themes to work on, here are a few ideas.

Reflections

Reflections can be found almost anywhere: in mirrors, puddles, bodies of water, reflective surfaces, and more. They are great for producing bizarre and symmetrical looks. The trick will be keeping your own reflection out of the photo.

Shadows

Shadows are another terrific photo effect. They add a sense of drama and mystery while providing photos with the contrast you need. You can photograph a shadow on its own or include both the shadow and its source.

Golden Hour

Golden hour occurs an hour after sunrise or before sunset. It’s supposedly the best time to shoot as it provides warm, diffused light to your images. Set your clock accordingly so you can get out and Capture those gems.

Self-Portrait

No, I’m not referring to selfies. A self-portrait is a lot more challenging to capture as you won’t be able to see the picture as it’s being taken. All the better when it comes to taking your photography skills up a notch.

Underwater Photography

Underwater photography provides the most stunning effects, but it is one of the most challenging types of photography to capture. It can be very difficult to get the lighting right and to shoot through rippling surfaces. You will also need special diving gear and camera equipment. It’s not an easy genre to master but if you can get the shots you need, you will tap into a whole new world of creativity.

Sunrise, Sunset

Sunrises and sunsets provide awesome colors that change the look of everything around them. Head out during these times of day to try and capture them with your lens. You are guaranteed to get stunning results.

Droplets of Water

Droplets of water bounce here and there and they are quite unpredictable. This makes them challenging to capture on camera. But if you get them in motion, it will make a great picture.

You can take pictures of water falling from the sky or you can create your own drops in the sink or bathtub and photograph them that way.

Framing

As a photographer, you probably know how important it is to frame your photography. It will ensure your photo has excellent composition.

If you can find a frame that already exists, such as a hallway or a structure, you can rest assured that your photo will look terrific. Keep your eyes open for one when you are out shooting.

Shallow Depth of Field

A shallow depth of field will result in a picture with a sharp focus on the subject and a blurred background. It can be achieved with a low f-stop number ranging from f/1.8 to f/5.6. The end result will be absolutely stunning.

Shutter Speed

Playing with shutter speed can get you a wide range of creative results. It refers to the amount of time the shutter stays open when taking pictures as well as how long the subject is exposed to light. Slow down the speed to create light trails or increase the speed to catch an action shot with minimal blur.

2022 is the year to go outside the box with your photography. Now that you have themes to work with, you can get inspired to take it to the next level. Which of these are you most excited to try out?
