Swami Vivekananda Jayanti – Date, History, Significance & Celebration

Swami Vivekananda Jayanti is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. It is also celebrated as National Youth Day or Yuwa Diwas. The day falls on the 7th day after the full moon day. This day is celebrated on January 12th every year. As per the Hindu calendar, birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda falls on the Paksha Saptami, i.e. the 7th day after the day of full moon.

As per the English calendar, Swami Vivekananda was born on January 12th, 1863 in the city of Calcutta. However, his birthday os celebrated as per the Hindu calendar on January 12th every year.

His real name was Narendra Nath Dutta. His father was Vishwanath Dutta. He was an attorney at the Calcutta High Court. His mother was Bhubaneswari Devi. She was a devout wife. The teachings of Swami Vivekananda are still followed by numerous people and his ideologies are still respected. Swami Vivekananda was considered to be a Hindu monk and he was also a patriotic saint of India.

Swami Vivekananda was a great philosopher and an idealistic. He is still honored for his ideas and theories. He was a disciple of Ramakrishnan. He was the founder of the Belur Math, Ramakrishnan Math and the Ramakrishnan Mission.

The government of India established the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda as the National Youth day. National Youth Day is celebrated to honor Swami Vivekananda on his birth anniversary on January 12th. National Youth Day was established in the year 1985. The main motive behind celebrating Youth Day is to motivate the youth and spread the ideologies and philosophies of Swami Vivekananda.

The day honors Swami Vivekananda and shows devotion for his teachings. Many functions and competitions are conducted at schools, colleges and offices on this day. People conduct prayers and parades for Swami Vivekananda. Many regions conduct mangal aarties, meditations, devotional songs and seminars.

It is said that during the peak time of his adolescent and youth, Narendra Nath i.e. Swami Vivekananda met his Guru Sri Ramakrishnan when there were so many doubts and questions in his mind. A day in the year 1981, in November, Narendra Nath went to the Ramakrishnan.

Sri Ramakrishnan cleared all the doubts of Swami Vivekananda. He answered all the questions he asked and cleared all the doubts of Swami Vivekananda.
