BSBA AFFILIATE DISBANDING ACTIONS To Do List – Updated 06/11/19

Steps to take moving forward to finalize disbanding a BSBA Affiliate booster for 2019:

  1. Complete and forward letter to BSBA noticing intention to disband.
  2. Write and send checks for site programs to BUSD for the benefit of the school by June 21, 2019. If more time is needed, contact BSBA at [email protected]
  3. When steps 1 and 2 are completed, inform BSBA.
    a. Compile and send a list of outstanding checks and send the list to BSBA.
    b. As of October 18, 2019, any funds left in a disbanded booster account will be sent by BSBA to BUSD for the benefit of that booster’s school site or program
  4. If a BSBA Affiliate booster needs more time past June 30, 2019, to clear all debts or allocate funding to BUSD, contact BSBA, via email, immediately to work out a timeline for disbandment completion.
    a. The booster club should have all funds moved to the new Fundraising Committee format by June 30, 2019.
    b. BSBA will close bank account with UMe FCU once the booster has disbanded and all debts are paid for.
  5. Prepare fiscal year-end financial statements for the 2018/2019 school year as soon as possible per Financial Compliance forms available at www.burbankschoolsboosters.orga. Complete Excel version of the financial report
    b. Complete raffle report for Sept. 1, 2018, through Aug. 31, 2019
    c. Complete a year-end financial review of all bank accounts for the 2018/2019 school year d. Fillable forms are available on the BSBA website, www.burbankschoolsboosters.org

ALL ITEMS REQUESTED MUST BE SCANNED AND EMAILED TO BSBA AT [email protected] NOTE: Any letters or notices received from governing entities such as the IRS or State of California by disbanded boosters must be forwarded to BSBA immediately.

If the booster wishes to start a separate, legal public charity (IRS 501(c)(3)

There are fees and expenses related to establishing a new nonprofit with the IRS and the State of California. Funds that were raised by affiliate boosters for BUSD school programs under BSBA may not be used to start a new 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Funds to create a new 501(c)(3) organization must come from a different, outside source unrelated to funds raised for school site/BUSD program purposes.
