Leeds United confirm second summer signing

Leeds United have announced their second summer signing as another RB Salzburg export has landed at Elland Road in the form of full-back Rasmus Kristensen.

The deal is expected to reach ‘up to £10m’, with Marsch fighting off interest from Brentford and Borussia Dortmund to secure his man.

Kristensen, who plays predominantly on the right-hand side, made 29 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga this campaign, as well as 8 Champions League outings.

Next season, however, he will be reunited with Jesse Marsch, this time in Yorkshire.

The right-back has ‘accepted terms on a five-year-contract at Elland Road, running until the summer of 2027’, the Premier League club revealed, and will provide squad depth for the Peacock’s next campaign as they look to avoid the injury and absentee issues that nearly cost them a place in the top flight this time around.

He joins fellow Salburg talent Brendan Aaronson in making the switch from Austria to Yorkshire this summer, for a total outlay of just below £40m.

Leeds looking to hold on to their assets

A potentially far bigger problem for Jesse Marsch could be keeping hold of his side’s key assets, with both Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips attracting attention.

Phillips has emerged as a target for both Manchester United and Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola’s side thought to be in the lead for his signature should he opt to leave Elland Road this summer.

Meanwhile, Raphinha is seemingly keen to join Xavi at the Camp Nou, though Leeds are not thought to be minded to let him leave for less than 55m euros, which Barcelona may not be able to find amid their financial uncertainty.
