Newcastle Striker Callum Wilson issues brave claim ahead of Arsenal clash
Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has backed himself to score against Arsenal on Monday night at St James’ Park should he start the game.
The English forward, now 30 years old, has only made 16 appearances for the Magpies’ this season as a result of injury woes, scoring 6 goals in the process.
Wilson has returned to Eddie Howe’s ranks following an Achilles injury suffered during his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United in December, which resulted in him being taken off at halftime.
However, he played 20 minutes as he made a return against Manchester City during their 5-0 drubbing and, alongside Kieran Trippier, is in contention to face Arsenal.
Wilson backs himself
And now, speaking on the Footballers Football podcast, Wilson discussed the enjoyment he gets out of playing evening matches as opposed to regular 3pm outings. And, in a bold move, he backed himself to net against the Gunners, which will come as music to the ears of Newcastle and Tottenham fans alike.
“You’ve just woke up, it might be dark outside, the lights are on at the stadium, the fans are there’, he noted.
“If you’re a betting man, I’d bet on me to score if I start the game.”

Should he fulfil his prediction, he will certainly help his side stand a great chance of picking up at least a draw from the encounter.
