Insight provided into Tanguy Ndombele’s Tottenham future beyond the summer
A fresh insight into the future of on-loan Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has, on Friday evening, been provided.
French international Ndombele, on the back of another underwhelming opening to the campaign, was of course granted a departure from north London during the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old went on to reunite with Olympique Lyonnais, linking up with the Ligue 1 outfit for the remainder of the season.
And Ndombele has since gone on to appear in the colours of OL on nine occasions across all competitions, impressing en route to a goal and two assists between league and Europa League play.
What, though, of the gifted midfielder’s future beyond the summer?
It has, to this point, remained largely unclear whether Lyon are in a financial position to make a play for Ndombele’s signature on a permanent basis, upon the conclusion of his loan spell next month.
Tottenham, meanwhile, appear altogether unlikely to be planning for next season with the one-time Amiens talent in mind, as Antonio Conte continues to run the rule over the first-team setup in north London.
If the latest word stemming from the media on Friday is anything to go by, though, then those in a position of power at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium nevertheless look set to, at least temporarily, welcome Ndombele back to the club over the months ahead.
This comes with Lyon having little intention of forking over the kind of sum likely to be required to seal a permanent transfer.
As per a report from the Daily Mail, citing the Evening Standard, the French outfit would need to stump up close to the £54 million they received from Spurs back in 2019 to strike an extended deal.
‘The club are therefore not expected to exercise’ their option, with Ndombele in line to return to base with Tottenham, it is confirmed.

Amongst the goals
The latest word on Ndombele’s future of course comes fresh on the back of the Frenchman finding the net back on English soil just 24 hours ago.
After making the trip to the London Stadium for a Europa League meeting with West Ham, Ndombele’s Lyon found themselves a goal down just beyond the interval, when Jarrod Bowen capitalised on a Jerome Boateng mistake in ruthless fashion.
The evening’s visitors, though, ultimately did enough to emerge from proceedings all square ahead of next week’s return leg at the Groupama Stadium.
This came owing to an equaliser on the part of that man Ndombele, who reopened his account in Lyon’s colours from close range 25 minutes from time:
