In preparation for the Asian Football Confederation, six footballers from two countries were discovered to have tested positive for coronavirus as Champions League matches were scheduled to start in Qatar on Monday.

After six month suspension since March, the annual tournament have been permitted to resume.

The AFC said five players who tested positive are from Saudi Arabia, while the other is from Qatar’s Al Duhail. This was after tests were conducted on all teams who are to partake in the western region of the tournament.

Those who tested positive are under medical supervision in a quarantined environment,” the AFC said in a statement.

Moreover, the AFC added that one of the members of Al Hilal’s management team also contracted the virus. And they decided to keep their names anonymous.

However, UAE sports officials suggested that the group matches should be postponed, but their suggestion wasn’t granted since many teams had gotten into Qatar for the matches.
