Kayode Urges FG To Establish Skills Acquisition Centres In All Councils
ABUJA – Adetokunbo Kayode, President, Abuja Chamber of Chamber and Industry (ACCI), has urged the Federal Government to Establish Skills Acquisition centres in all the 774 local government areas in Nigeria to address the current skills gap in the country. Kayode also advocated that vocational training should be made compulsory for every
Nigerian youth as part of measures to stem the high rate of unemployment in the country and address the issue of skills gap. The ACCI boss, who stated this at a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, said vocational training should be used by relevant government’s institutions as one of the pre-requisites for gaining admission to higher institutions of learning in the country. Kayode, a former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, urged
the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, develop National Skills Policy, lamenting that Nigeria does not have national skills policy to tackle huge skills gap in the country. While commending the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for the signing of African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), he, however, urged the government to carry the organised private sector along in the implementation of the Agreement. He strongly expressed op
timism that AfCFTA would turn around the fortunes of the African Continent, adding that Nigeria would benefit immensely from the implementation of the Agreement. He further urged the government to create an enabling environment for the private sector to drive the Agreement, through the provision of critical infrastructure and power supply. The former minister further advocated the establishment of National Industrial Parks in all the local government areas across the country to create employment, generate wealth and defeat poverty plaguing the country.
