PsychCloned – Road To Greatness

North Carolina based composer and producer Gabriel Pureco debuted his Psychcloned project over three years ago. The Static Dive readers have followed his journey from the beginning. We have listened as his project evolved from early dreams of writing electronic music for video games into an international multi-genre collaborative instrumental project.

PsychCloned albums are thematic, with each component carefully chosen to move the story forward. Since he works exclusively in instrumentals, Gabriel sets his moods with the help of a carefully curated roster of collaborators, and his own extensive musical knowledge. He has crafted tales of great adventures, turbulent times, rebirth and renewal. His latest tells a story of evolution and growth.

Road to Greatness is the brand new album from PsychCloned, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 14, 2023. The seven song collection is an inspiring set of cinematic instrumentals. Pureco and team forge new ground while further defining their distinctive genre-defying groove.

The album opens on the melodically complex acoustic Spanish guitar intro of the title track. Soon the beat drops on an epic instrumental prog-rock theme. Flute, keys, strings and percussion ride a simmering syncopated rhythm. The guitar-driven “Enchanted” follows, mixing classic and alternative rock shredding with a New Orleans jazz meets Jamaican reggae groove.

Sirens beckon us from seaside cliffs as the playful interwoven melodies on “La Sirena” leave us in a confused euphoria. The band cranks it to eleven for the high-octane rocker “Nectar of the Gods”. This is metal the PsychCloned way, defined by mind-blowing virtuosity and next-level sophistication of composition.

“Hikari” shifts the focus to the sublime. The title means “light” in Japanese. Taking that cue, the song paints an uplifting and motivational scene with lush orchestration. We get back to the rock for “Dusk to Dawn”, a rousing power ballad featuring elements of 80s rock and 70s pop/soul.

The album closer “March of Progress” is an adventurous piece, even by PsychCloned standards. The track transitions through jazz phrases, world beats, EDM grooves and ELP-inspired prog-rock. In its second half, the song moves into a melodically intricate acoustic passage of strings, percussion and flute before closing the record on an intimate solo piano outro.
