Wambli’s Mysterious Darkness & Light

Wambli is a veteran songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer who is making his solo professional recording debut in 2023. For nearly two decades he has been making hits, behind the scenes. He has collaborated with countless artists as a beatmaker, songwriter, and producer.

“Darkness and Light” is the brand new single from Wambli, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 7, 2023. A hard techno beat slowly pulses into the mix as minor-key analog synths paint a dark soundscape. The high-energy groove further accents the mood as a sultry female vocalist meditates on the song’s yin/yang premise. The track progresses through hypnotic techno, tech house, and even trance-like vibes as we contemplate the duality of existence.

8 Questions with Wambli

Wambli

Where are you from?

Wambli: When I was a kid my father was in the Army so we moved around alot. I was born in Colorado Springs, grew up in Alaska, went to high school in El Paso, TX, and currently live in the Los Angeles area.

How long have you been making music?

I’ve been making music of some kind or another for about 20 years. I’ve bounced around a lot of genres and learned a lot of instruments over the years. Everything from Ambient to Heavy Metal.

Who are the musicians involved in your project?

None right now, this is the first time I’ve been completely solo on any musical project.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

My biggest influences are vast and span across multiple genres. Anybody who has a lot of dissonance and tension in their music. Deftones, Tool, and The Cure…are from my early years, but the way they make music that is dark yet really sexy is something that I always vibe with and try to give to the listener. I feel like music should have an edge to it.

I’m just now exploring Techno music and my influences from the EDM world are i_o, Will Sparks, Space 92, and FOVOS. I had kind of walked away from music but in October of 2022 I went to my first Techno show and got to see Will Sparks at a nightclub in Los Angeles…It was life-changing!

Halfway through that show, I decided that I wanted to make music and put on a show like that. So I started digging into all of the Techno that I could find so I could do some critical listening and teach myself how to make it. A couple of months later I had my first two tracks signed by labels and here we are.

What is your greatest non-musical influence?

Definitely my wife, my family, and the “shadow work” I’ve been doing for the past couple of years to be a better husband, father, and man.

What inspired you to create this project?

Even though it’s a clubby Techno track, again I still feel like music should have an edge to it. And so for this track, the main concept is that people should look inwards and the “dark” parts of themselves and make peace with them in order to be a whole person. We have a tendency to run from our true selves or try to hide things we don’t want others to know about us. That’s not a sustainable pathway to happiness, and the only way to truly be happy is to know exactly who you are.

What are your plans for the future (musically)?

Lots and lots of singles, both self-released and label releases.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

I’m willing to take the risk and express my innermost emotions through the music I create. This is a reflection of who I am.
