The Supreme Court has refused to immediately remove the restrictions imposed by the central government in Jammu and Kashmir.
With the abolition of Article 370, which conferred special status on Kashmir, the security forces were consolidated and various restrictions were imposed. Communication services such as cellphone and internet have also been disconnected.
Tehseen Poonawalla, a Congressman, filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court demanding the lifting of restrictions in Kashmir. The case came up for hearing before a three-judge bench headed by Arunmishra.
The judges said that due to the very sensitive environment in Kashmir, there should be time to return to normalcy.
The magistrates said they could not issue any restrictions on the removal of the restrictions. The judges also wanted to ensure that no casualties were reported in Kashmir.
