Two people died in a major fire that started early Sunday morning in a building housing seasonal in Courchevel (Savoie), according to a new record of the prefecture.
The two bodies, whose identities could not be specified immediately, were found by firefighters under the rubble of the building, according to the prefecture, which also reported four seriously wounded, whose vital prognosis n ' were not engaged.
Three of the four seriously injured were helicoptered to hospitals.
Eighteen light wounded were counted early in the morning.
The fire broke out around 4:30 am on the third and last floor of the building, where seasonal workers, including foreigners, lived in the posh resort of Courchevel 1850.
The cause of the fire, which was extinguished in the early morning, was not known immediately. 70 firefighters were mobilized.
The occupants of the building, sixty people, had been evacuated in the early morning and gathered in a communal room. The town hall has set up a toll free number (0800 008 902) for the families of the victims. The sub-prefect of Albertville went there.
"My thoughts are with the families and relatives of the victims of the fire that has just mourned the municipality of Courchevel", wrote in a tweet the Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner, who also made "tribute to the fire soldiers of the @SDISsave who have mastered the fire and at the @ Gendarmerie_073 mobilized since 4:30 under the authority of @ Prefet73 ".
An investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie, under the authority of the public prosecutor's office of Albertville.
