Square Enix just released the Tokyo Game Show trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake, showing Avalanche’s trials and Shinra’s goons.
After months of waiting, we finally have a shotgun blast of new footage for the FFVII Remake. There’s a massive amount of ground covered here, from just after the opening bombing run to right before the Shinra tower infiltration. Among the madness, there’s also some new scenes too, such as what seems to be the Avalanche headquarters being assaulted by the Keepers of Fate, the terrorist cell parachuting through Midgar’s skies, and a motorcycle chase courtesy of a very flashy Shinra SOLDIER.
Of course, it’s not without plenty of recognizable details. There’s almost too much to cover, but I’ll try my best. The Turks are shown for the first time, and it looks like all of their appearances are going to be intense rival battles. Reno’s first appearance is a 1-on-1 with Cloud, and Rude is seen fighting Cloud and Aerith. Don Corneo and the Wall Market scenario are shown, though Cloud “in costume” will likely be left as a surprise for the game. What was seen, however, was Cloud and Tifa (who was not present in this sequence originally) participating in the exercise minigame.
Cloud is afflicted with the “frog” status at one point, and turns into a realistic frog – with a tiny Buster Sword. Shiva and Ifrit are both seen acting as powerful spells, and we also see one of Midgar’s weirder enemies: a chariot-drawn monster. The scene immediately preceding the Air Buster fight has President Shinra and Heidigger appear as holograms instead of in-person, and reveal that Avalanche is now considered allies of the enemy nation of Wutai. Finally, we see a shot of Sector 7 after the plate is dropped.
All in all, I think this trailer is going to fuel Final Fantasy VII Remake fans for a while. There’s a ton to digest here, and it all looks really good. Pre-orders are currently available on the official website. March 3rd, 2020 can’t come soon enough!
