HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT PERSONAL TRAINER FOR YOU

When you make the decision to hire a Personal Trainer it can be the most amazing experience of your life…

If you pick the right person!

Having the wrong trainer can not only lead to disappointing experience but it can also lead to injury.

Isn’t it funny how we spend a massive amount of time researching which new items we should buy?

But when it comes to choosing someone to help us healthy, do we spend the same time on it?

HOW DO WE FIND THE RIGHT PERSONAL TRAINER?

Here’s the thing…

Exercise and nutrition is not a one size fits all kind of thing. It is personal to every single one of us.

We all have our own unique body type, our own likes and dislikes and our own challenges. We also have our own reasons for doing things.

Not to mention that we all have our own individual lifestyle, mindset and experiences when it comes to our health and fitness.

So it’s only logical that we can’t all do or be the same things.

MEETING YOUR TRAINER

When you meet with a Personal Trainer for the first time, they will create a program unique to you.

This means that they will want to get to know you as much as possible. That way they can get it exactly right.

Being healthy isn’t a destination, it is a journey so it’s likely that if your trainer isn’t listening to you, or they’re trying to sell you on something you don’t like the idea of… well, they’re probably not for you!

Your personal trainer should interview you, but remember to interview them too. Make sure this person is someone you are happy to spend time with and most of all, someone you will be able to trust.

THEIR EXPERIENCE AND SPECIALIST AREAS

A lot of personal trainers have their own experiences and specialist areas so make sure that you pay attention to this…

There’s no point hiring a trainer to help you lose weight if you don’t like cardio and that’s the technique they use.

My practice is based on the belief that I can make your life better and healthier with a holistic approach and your attitude.

I don’t just look at the physical goals that you want to achieve. I use my past experiences to help you build a sustainable lifestyle and have a healthy relationship with your body and food.

My clients determine if my methods are a good fit for their goals and personality and together, we determine the overall results that we can achieve.

Whether you are interested in one-to-one sessions, online training or group sessions, the only way the achieve long term success to to create an individual plan.

HOW DO I KNOW IF THE TRAINER IS RIGHT FOR ME?

To be honest, it’s a very personal process so there are no hard and fast rules. I would say to just go with your gut. If you don’t instinctively feel that it’s a good fit, it probably isn’t…

That said, here are a few key points that should be raised in an interview with any personal trainer:

Your body type – knowing your body type will help indicate how your body should be treated with regards to nourishment and rest.

Medical History – this includes any injuries, surgeries, illnesses and medications that you have been taking. Your trainer should also check your measurements such as heart rate and blood pressure too.

Accountability – it’s important to know what you expect from the trainer and also what the trainer will expect from you. This should always be put into writing.

Comfort – you’ll be spending a lot of time with your trainer so you will need to feel comfortable with them. Listen, observe and ask plenty of questions.

Once you have gone through these questions, you should know if the trainer is not quite right for you. You should have clarity of expectations . And lastly, you will know if you are being offered a generic training program or one that is tailored specifically to you.

Only once the interview has taken place will you be in a position to make an informed decision regarding the next step of hiring the trainer or not.

Just remember, you are amazing and you should never settle for anything less than amazing. Respect yourself and your body enough to know that you deserve the best.

Do you have a personal trainer? Are you thinking of hiring one? Let me know your experiences in the comments.
