The actor began his career by taking small roles in British sitcoms such as Teachers, as well as having a bit part in the soap opera Hollyoaks, set in northern England. His big break came in a series called Fat Friends, in which he played Jamie Rymer. He linked up with Ruth Jones in the series and the pair went on to work in another sitcom, Gavin and Stacey.
It was with Gavin and Stacey that Corden found real fame, co-writing the series with Jones. He played Smithy, whilst Jones played his on/off romance Nessa. The show was a huge hit and put Corden firmly in the limelight as a skilled actor and writer. He won a string of awards for the show, starting with the British Comedy Awards Best Male Comedy Performer in 2007, whilst Gavin and Stacey won Best New British Television Comedy. In 2008, Corden won the BAFTA for Best Male Comedy Performance, and Gavin and Stacey won the BAFTA’s Audience Award for Programme of the Year. They were picking up gongs at the British Comedy Awards again at the end of 2008, with the show winning Best TV Comedy.
He got his first taste of presenting on Sky TV in 2010, hosting sports show A League of Their Own with cricketer Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff and soccer player Jamie Redknapp. He also presented the Brit Awards, a UK-based music award ceremony, in 2009, 2010 and 2012. Corden is 41-years-old and lives in Los Angeles with his family. They also have a home in the UK, in the Belsize Park area of London. Corden married Julia Carey in 2012 and they have three children: Max (born 22 March 2011), Carey (born 27 October 2014) and Charlotte (born 12 December 2017).
He is a big soccer fan and is known to support Premier League team West Ham United, as well as MLS team LA Galaxy.
