Fall and Winter fashion traditionally tend to be very similar. In fact, most magazines and experts lump their suggestions into fall/winter and spring/summer. For good reason! But winter trends show some differences to fall trends simply because you are further into the cold season already. So, you start seeing which trends really manifested and whether unexpected trends developed. If you want to spruce up your wardrobe with a new piece or two this winter, here’s some inspiration from Italy for you.
Fashion Trends in Italy – Winter 2019: Overview
A few magazines and bloggers already summarized their suggestions for 2019 as a whole. SnapItaly is one of them. And a few of their suggestions are easily incorporated into your winter wardrobe. Green is the color to go for. And feathers! Feathers are incorporated into garments as well as accessories this year. Suggestions from various other fashion magazines in Italy include velvet jackets, floral prints, and layers.
Five Tips for Your Winter Look
Here are the top five suggestions for this winter:
Go for Green
Remember how in the Fall 2018 fashion trends we suggested that bottle green was the way to go? Throughout winter, green in all shades has come through as the trend color. So, whether it’s peacock, emerald or jade…. Go for it! Check out for example this emerald green cocktail dress or this warm jade winter coat.
Fun with Feathers
Ready to be a little more extravagant? Incorporate feathers. This year, you’ll see feathers decorating purses and bags as well as dresses and tops. You’ll have to be a little more courageous to pull this one off, but I’m sure you’ll have fun with it. Maybe a faux feather clutch in apricot? Or some feather earrings?
Are you ready for this? Not quite new, but rather, back again: velvet jackets! Italian Vogue already predicted this earlier in the fall and it’s true. Velvet jackets are back. You can see many in classic darker shades, but there are also fun patterns to be seen around.
Floral prints are also a suggestion from fall 2018 and they are sticking around all winter. Elle Italy has some great suggestions on how to pull this more typically summery look off in the winter. For example, you can combine your flowery, long dresses (like this floral print maxi dress for winter) with a short, padded jacket, a bomber jacket or even a leather jacket for a fun wintery look.
Layers, Layers, Layers
Cosmo Italy shows some fun celebrity sightings sporting this winter trend. In order to stay warm, you can layer your clothes and end up with many different looks throughout the day. I particularly love Sara Jessica Parker’s look in their pics of a summery floral dress, colorful winter tights and leather gloves. Fun!
Extra Accessory Tip: Ear Cuffs
The top suggestion for accessorizing your look this winter (and going into 2019)? Ear cuffs. Again, coming to you from Snapitaly, this trend suggestion isn’t completely new. It came to Italy actually from the US a few years ago and seems to be taking off (again) in 2019. There are some really elegant ones too like these rose gold plated ear cuffs or this gold ear cuff.
