Summer is long gone and the music Italian radio stations play has changed quite a bit. The music that was popular in the summer of 2018 is quite different from what’s in the charts in Italy right now. Summer music is usually much more upbeat and has quicker rhythms you can sing and dance along to. Here’s a quick summary of what’s playing on the radio in fall 2018 instead. Enjoy the slower tunes.
Torna A Casa
This Song seems to be playing every time I turn on the radio: Torna a Casa by Måneskin. It’s a slow song that has some components that are more rock and more reminiscent of their hits so far. Måneskin rose to fame in 2017 after they participated in the Italian version of X Factor. They came in second in the show, but are the biggest success of their group of competitors. The first single they released after the show was Morirò da re, a song that has already achieved double platinum. When you listed to it, you would never think that the singer is just 17 years old. Their second single, Torna a Casa, is currently number 1 on the FIMI charts (Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana) and seems set to stay there for a while.
Prima di Ogni Cosa
Another hit by Fedez: Prima di Ogni Cosa. And fitting for this season, also this song is a slower one. He dedicated it to his son Leone. On the MTV charts it’s on number 2 this week. Fedez is a rapper from Milan. Earlier this fall he married his girlfriend Chiara Ferragni, a famous blogger here in Italy. I actually remember when they got married and the menu of their wedding was posted all over social media and just about every Italian made fun of how little food there was considering it was a Sicilian wedding. It was a 5 or 6 course menu, but apparently it was “less food than would be served at a Sunday family lunch in Sicily”. These comments cracked me up.
Se Piovesse Il Tuo Nome
This hit single by Elisa is one of the most seen videos on Shazam right now. Se Piovesse Il Tuo Nome has been watched there already more than 300 000 times. And it hasn’t even been out for two months yet! I’m sure you’re starting to see a pattern here…. Also this song is a very slow one. It seems that just like spring hits in Italy, fall hits in Italy are, for the most part, slow songs. Elisa first became famous across Italy in 2001 when she won the Sanremo festival with Luce (tramonti a Nord Est). None other than Zucchero himself wrote the lyrics for that song for her. And 17 years later she still pops up frequently in the charts. Sanremo really is the star maker in Italy.
Il Cielo Nella Stanza
The song Il Cielo Nella Stanza by Salmo came out just last week and is on number 2 on the FIMI charts (Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana) already. On YouTube it’s been viewed 4.4 million times. In three weeks!! In this song, the rapper from Sardegna is supported by NSTASIA, an American actress who is starting her singing career after writing songs for big stars like Beyoncé, Macy Gray and Usher.
A superfamous and popular Italian musician is back in the charts: Vasco Rossi. His song La Verità is the most played song this week on Italian radio stations according to Radio 105. His song isn’t even available on Amazon yet, but you can see the video and listen to it on YouTube:
