I have one more interview for you. Another one of my favorite Italian Lifestyle Bloggers 2018 agreed to answer my questions! This blogger keeps it real on her, as she puts it, “non-traditional travel blog”. I love her articles. She’s always honest, often funny, and doesn’t just talk about the pretty landscape and great food Italy has to offer. Life in Italy isn’t always a walk in the park and she doesn’t shy away from writing about that part either. Find out more about M.E. Evans from the website Surviving in Italy below.
Surviving in Italy
On her website, M.E. Evans shares personal stories of living in Italy (and other trips). She moved from Utah to Italy in 2009 as a grad student, found love, stayed a loooong time and now lives part-time in Italy. I love her humorous take on things and the fact that she talks about the difficulties that life abroad brings with it. And lots of the fun parts too of course. She has a post dedicated to first-timers on her site and I really think it’s a great starting point.
Interview with M.E. Evans
Where are you from originally and where in Italy do you live now? Why did you move?
I’m from Salt Lake City, Utah. I moved to Florence, Italy in 2009 and now my husband and I live between SLC and Italy.
What is your favorite part about living in Italy? What is the least favorite?
The food is definitely a bonus and the architecture. I just love how beautiful the cities are and how there’s so much history and new things to do. My least favorite? I’d have to say the staring. Coming from the US, I’m not used to staring! It drives me insane.
When and why did you start your blog? Has your motivation for writing the blog or the blog’s direction changed since you started it?
I started my blog to connect with other expats because at the time I was having a really difficult experience and I just needed to find others I could relate to. Then I just really fell in love with travel writing. I’ve always loved travel, ever since I was a kid, so it just makes sense to write about my experiences.
If someone only had time to read one of your posts, which one would you suggest?
Well, that’s a hard thing to answer. My writing is a lot different from other travel blogs in terms of my sense of humor. If you read one post, you might think I’m a total lunatic, but if you read a few I think (I hope) I sound like a somewhat normal lunatic. One of my most popular posts was something I wrote a while ago about what I’d do differently if I could do my expat experience over again: Moving to Italy: 7 Things I’d Do Differently the Second Time Around. People loved that.
Thanks for answering my questions!
