I recently introduced you to my favorite Italian lifestyle blogs 2018. And I have to say, they really are an awesome bunch. So many of them let me send them my nosy questions and gave such great and insightful answers. It was really fun to learn more about them and their blogs. Over the next few weeks, I will share their answers with you in this series. Let’s start with Jasmine from Questa Dolce Vita.
Questa Dolce Vita
Jasmine is a Canadian transplant that lives in the North of Italy, in Bergamo. She posts often and on varied topics like Italian recipes, advice about moving to Italy, personal experiences and short fictional stories that can make you fall in love with Italy all over again. This busy lady is also one of the founders of the #DolceVitaBloggers linkup that I recently participated in for the first time by sharing the stories around five Italian words I learned. On top of that, Jasmine has a series that features foreigners who moved to Italy for love and how they are living life in the Bel Paese now. This blog is definitely for the romantics among us. And it should come with a warning… you might feel the urge to move to Italy yourself after spending time with Jasmine and her interview partners on her blog.
Interview with Jasmine
Where are you from originally and where in Italy do you live now? Why did you move?
I’m a born-and-raised Edmontonian (from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) and a proud second generation Chinese-Canadian. I currently live in Bergamo, Italy in the region of Lombardy. I moved for the cliché- amore. My husband is from Bergamo
What is your favorite part about living in Italy? What is the least favorite?
My favorite part about living in Italy is the food, I’m a complete glutton and so the attitude towards eating and the culture of food in Italy is perfect for me. My least favorite part about living abroad in general is that I’m not near my immediate family or friends from when I grew up.
When and why did you start your blog? Has your motivation for writing the blog or the blog’s direction changed since you started it?
I started my blog in 2014 for the age-old reason of keeping the aforementioned friends and family updated with my adventures. Absolutely, the motivation and direction have both changed. Through the years, gaining some readership, I’m focusing the blog heavily on showing the experience for would-be and fellow expats, as well as providing as many insights on the culture that I can. The three main focuses of my blog now are: lifestyle, love, and language.
If someone only had time to read one of your posts, which one would you suggest?
There’s so many I love but one that is fairly unique is this one: Hardships of the Non-White Expat in Italy. Let’s just say there’s a lot of blogs written by people who, though from a different country, might not outwardly look like they are and part of my blog’s success has been with an Asian-American audience curious about how being visibly identifiable as a racial minority changes expat life in Italy.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, Jasmine!
I hope you enjoyed learning more about Jasmine and her blog Questa Dolce Vita. You can of course find her on all the socials as you will see on her page. I particularly recommend her Twitter feed.
Soon, I will share the interviews I did with the bloggers from many of my other favorite Italian lifestyle blogs. Stay tuned by following me on Facebook or Twitter or subscribing to my newsletter in the right sidebar.
