Balor And Seth Rollins Is A Perfect Tag Team, But One WWE Doesn’t Need

News that Jason Jordan will be out of action indefinitely has affected more than just Jason Jordan. Aligned with Seth Rollins and former WWE Raw Tag Team Champions, it appeared Jordan and Rollins were in the midst of a storyline that would have led to a feud between the two. Tag team partners not really by choice, after succeeding to win the belts, Jordan was costing Rollins their matches by being often “too injured” or careless in his approach and confidence. It was starting to weigh on Rollins who, up to this point, had been patient with his somewhat clumsy tag team partner.

None of that matters now as Jordan will not be able to proceed with the angle and Rollins will need a new idea heading into WrestleMania. WWE said in a statement: “Raw Superstar Jason Jordan underwent successful surgery this morning to repair a neck injury.” This is apparently where Finn Balor comes in.

According to PWInsider, with Jordan sidelined indefinitely, Rollins will now be teaming up with Finn Balor to take on The Bar at live events over the next few weeks. They’ll be competing for the Raw Tag Team Championships and on the surface, this makes some sense. What will be interesting, is if this partnership makes it’s way to the main stage of Raw. Balor and Rollins can both go in the ring, they are among WWE’s most popular singles wrestlers and, if the team turned into a feud, Balor versus Rollins at WrestleMania would be a great match.

But, while this seemingly perfect marriage works out really well for Rollins, is this the best thing for Finn Balor? Some would argue no.

Balor has just recently come out of a situation where he was removed from the main event at the Royal Rumble versus Brock Lesnar because Vince McMahon didn’t believe he was “over” enough to warrant a main event spot. What came from that was actually a blessing for Balor as he got to reform The Club with his good friends Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows and the group has become immediate fan favorites.

The formation of Balor’s new stable has rejuvenated Balor and jumpstarted Anderson and Gallows in a way that has huge benefits for all three members. Moving Balor into a program with Rollins jeopardizes all of that momentum in a major way. Is it fair to ask Balor, who is just now getting as “over” as McMahon would like, to put that faction aside to jump into a program that will likely benefit Rollins more than anyone in the end?

The idea here is that Rollins needs a partner. He can’t use Dean Ambrose due to Ambrose’s long-term injury. He can’t use Roman Reigns because Reigns is scheduled for a much bigger program in the main event scene and for the Universal Title. Balor has been sort of thrown into this and it appears not much thought has been given to how it might affect Finn Balor.

There is also one very obvious issue with this idea. The idea of teaming Balor and Rollins on Raw and leading into WrestleMania goes against recent storylines.

Rollins and Balor had a fantastic match a few weeks back where interference from Jason Jordan cost Balor the win. Rollins brought back the “Curb Stomp” finisher in that match and while the crowd popped huge for the move, Balor was none too happy. This wasn’t the first time Balor and Rollins had met either. One week earlier, Balor, Anderson, and Gallows knocked Rollins, Reigns and Jordan off in tag team action.

Are fans to believe that this is just no big deal now? Balor can forgive and forget both Rollins and Jordan actions in an attempt to go for the tag team titles with a partner who isn’t in his faction? When asked logically, why would Balor do so? He’s already got his own partners whom with he doesn’t have friction.

Ultimately, this may be what leads to Balor turning on Rollins and that could be where the WWE is going with this. But that’s an awful lot of credit to give to the writing team who time and time again prove they have no problem asking fans to simply “forget” past storylines to deal with the immediate problem.

Regardless, it looks like WWE is going to forge ahead with Rollins and Balor as partners. They may battle for the tag titles or they may split and feud with each other but it seemingly leaves Gallows and Anderson once again on the outside with little to do, it ignores previous angles and ideas and it’s ultimately not a great thing for Balor who will likely end up doing the job to Rollins in a one-on-one match. But, what does this writer know?
