After winning Miss India World, Chopra was chosen to play the lead role in Abbas-Mustan's romantic thriller, Humraaz (2002), in which she was to make her film debut.However, this failed for a variety of reasons: she said the production was inconsistent with her schedule, while the producers said they were joined because Chopra had made various other commitments. His screen debut took place in the Tamil film Thamizhan in 2002 as the protagonist's love interest, played by Vijay. Writing for The Hindu, Namrata Joshi thought she "seemed out-of-color, selfless and not involved in most movies".It did not work well commercially.The following year, Chopra made his Hollywood debut by playing antagonist Victoria Leeds in Seth Gordon's action comedy, Baywatch, against Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. The feature has received negative reviews. Forbes' Scott Mendelson wrote, "Chopra has fun as a villain, but she stays in the background until the end of the film and really gets only one big scene at the end of the movie." Baywatch was not a commercial success in North America but better performance abroad. The 2018 Sundance Film Festival marked the release of Chopra's upcoming American film, A Kid Like Jake, a drama about gender variance, with Jim Parsons and Claire Danes. Amy Nicholson of Variety praised her "charming presence" but thought her role added little value to the film.
