Have You Heard Of India’s First Astro-Resort?

When you think of Sariska, you think of tigers. But did you know you could spot even the Orion in Sariska? The tiger reserve now hosts India’s first astro-resort.

Astroport is a unique destination in India, a paradise for stargazers and astrophotographers. It’s an astronomy resort in Sariska. This area is considered as the second darkest place in the whole of India giving a brilliant chance to see the stars better.

The resort has a few tents, each can accommodate about four people, and is named after a constellation. The best thing about Astroport is the in-house astronomers and an array of telescopes. So, if you love star gazing, but have no resources to pursue your hobby, then this destination will offer you a galore of opportunities.

The astronomers not only teach you about stars but also provide guidance for photography. For instance, if you keep the camera shutter open for 10 minutes, you can see a circular trail around each star, with the north star, Polaris in the centre of this circle.

But while star gazing is great fun, you have to be prepared with thermal and winter wear. As temperatures at Sariska can drop at night. But it can be great fun to sit under a star-lit sky, as the people at the resort get you hot cups of tea.

And if you are in the vicinity already, it is also great fun to join a jungle safari in the tiger reserve. Sariska is one of the lesser explored jungles of India. The historical structures amidst the wilderness lend a more enchanting air to the forest.

The astroport also offers solar walks, ayurvedic sessions, cycle tours, and water sports at Siliserh lake. Accommodations at the resort are around Rs 13,000 a night for galaxia tents and Rs 22,000 for Nebulae. The best time to visit Astroport is from September to May before the clouds take over the sky and the national park closes for the monsoon.

So, forget the routine itineraries, and try something new at the Astroport.
