Whether it is your best friend’s wedding or a festive party at work, it is the season for celebrations and parties galore. This time is also crucial to take care of your Skin to reverse the damage done by an overdose of indulgence at parties or too much use of makeup.

The short-term damage is breakouts and dullness – that are almost immediately reflected on the skin. The long-term damage is hastening of the aging process.

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to take care of your skin naturally, instead of getting expensive treatments and products.

Follow these tips to ensure your skin glows naturally from within, without even using a highlighter!

Drink Copious Amounts Of Water

Just drinking plain water is the easiest way to keep your skin healthy. No matter where you are and how much you’re partying, you need to ensure you’re drinking enough water. Not drinking water will reflect on your face, making it look dry and dull, and no amount of moisturising will help if your skin isn’t healthy from within.

Eat Right: You Don’t Need A Collagen Implant!

The adage ‘you are what you eat’ is absolutely right. And in this season when we end up indulging our taste buds more than we nourish our bodies, perhaps we can also bear in mind to include nutrients that have beneficial effects on how we look. Zinc, for example, is great for keeping the skin looking young. One can consume meat, eggs, nuts for the same. The deficiency of Omega 3 and Omega 6 can lead to dry skin. Keep damage away by eating fish, almonds, walnuts, whole grains etc. Consume generous amounts of lemons, guava, strawberry, Amla, grapes, kiwi for a good dose of Vitamin C which scavenges free radicals and provides antioxidants to the body. These foods have ‘plumping out’ effect – similar to a collagen implant.

Skin, nails, and bones are made up of keratin which is a protein. So include proteins of high biological value in the diet like eggs , chicken, fish, dairy foods, legumes, soy, quinoa. These help ward off the wrinkles and improved the quality and texture of the skin. They also help to repair the damages to hair and skin caused by pollution and environmental exposure.

Restrict the intake of alcohol and unprocessed food items in the diet. Beverages like green tea have polyphenols which improve blood flow and oxygen to the skin. Water keeps the skin smooth and healthy. Keep yourself hydrated and avoid sugary drinks which make the skin sag. Dahi is something that a lot of people apply to their skin and hair and there is a reason for this. It is protein rich and has Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid) which increases blood flow and gives lustre and shine to skin and hair.

Smoking is a definite no if you want naturally radiant skin. Avoid exposure to strong and harsh sunlight.

Remove Makeup Before You Sleep

This is the most important thing to do if you don’t want your skin to be covered in breakouts, acne, and spots. Residual makeup combines with oil and grime to clog pores that become acne and pimples. It is very important to remove makeup, no matter how tired you are after that party. But take care not to use harsh makeup removers, as it could actually harm the pH levels of your skin. Micellar water is all the rage in the beauty world, and rightfully so because it nourishes your skin while also removing the makeup from your skin.

Clean The Right Way

While on the topic of cleaning, the maximum emphasis has to be on a good skincare routine. The Korean double cleansing routine is actually foolproof because it cleans the skin without stripping the moisture off. First, use an oil-based cleanser, or just plain coconut or almond oil to get all the makeup off. Then, use a gentle foaming cleanser to clean your skin. Don’t neglect the toning routine. Pat the toner directly on the skin using clean hands. Don’t put it on cotton wool and then go rubbing your skin. After a minute or two, use a moisturiser that suits your skin. Exfoliate your skin every third day, because this will ensure you get any makeup debris or dead cells off. Exfoliating regularly will keep your skin fresh, clean, and healthy. But go easy on the exfoliation – most importantly, don’t overdo it, because that could strip the skin of essential oils and even cause damage to subcutaneous nerves. In the night, a serum, especially one that contains Vitamin C does wonders to the natural texture and glow of facial skin.

Use Your Sleep To Nourish The Skin

The importance of sleep in keeping the signs of worry and tiredness away from skin cannot be stressed enough. Your body replenishes skin cells and repairs your skin and body while you’re sleeping, so get rest when you can. Use serums – especially a Vitamin C serum in the night – if your skin needs some extra replenishing, and then wake up with glowing skin.
