After releasing the song Vashmalle which featured Aamir Khan teaming up with Amitabh Bachchan, YRF has launched the second track from Thugs of Hindostan, titled Suraiyya. This Ajay-Atul number features Aamir Khan yet again, but this time, he is seen shaking a leg with Katrina Kaif. The video shows Aamir’s character Firangi Mallah being bowled over by Suraiyya’s electrifying dance moves.
Firangi Mallah is seen dressed as a British East India Company soldier. He is also surrounded by what appear to be real East India Company soldiers, and at one point, Aamir’s character even slaps one of them. It’s not hard to imagine this since Firangi is shown in the trailer to have been recruited by the Englishmen in order to root out the gang of thugs led by Amitabh’s character Khudabaksh Azaad.
Suraiyya opens with a self-adoring line rendered by Katrina Kaif that goes, “Kabhi kabhi humein dekhke log apni jaan kho baithte hai.” This thought is continued by the song’s chorus, which is, “Suraiyya jaan legi kya.” The ever so versatile Vishal Dadlani has sung the male parts, while the splendid voice of Shreya Ghosal handles the female portions.
It makes sense that the makers of the film have chosen to withhold the song’s full release since there’s so much anticipation surrounding it. The song’s teaser video that’s out now on YouTube proclaims that the full song can only be viewed in the theatres by those who buy tickets for the much-awaited flick. And by the looks of it, even the audio version of this track might not get released until the film hits the screens.
Thugs of Hindostan is an ambitious film from YRF, which borrows from India’s history and creates a fictional story around it. It’s set in 1795, against the backdrop of the country’s colonial takeover by the British East India Company. The trailer of this film was released recently, and while it was appreciated by many for its freshness, it wasn’t hard to miss the blatant amount of visuals it has borrowed from Pirates of the Carribean films as well as the video game, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
Thugs of Hindostan is gearing up for a November 8 release in India.
