Post the success of his Bollywood debut, Dulquer Salmaan is not only a Malayalam heartthrob but has fans all across the world now. His work in Karwaan was much appreciated and loved by all. He’s already a huge star down South but is soon becoming popular in Bollywood too. His second Bollywood Film after Karwaan is The Zoya Factor. Speaking to HotFRidayTalks.com, Dulquer shares some memories of his childhood, Karwaan and his upcoming film The Zoya Factor.
How much like your character Avinash are you in real life?
Avinash is someone who is not happy with his life and is aging faster than he should be and I have kind of been there when I started acting so I kind of relate to that space.

Did you always want to be an actor?
There is no guarantee in the movie business when I wanted to act my parents were not very convinced. They wanted me to study be more educated because there is no stability and guarantee in this industry. I was kept as far away from films as possible. We had a very normal upbringing even though we did visit his sets sometimes but that’s about it.
Have you ever been compared to your father? Does he give you any tips?
What works in my favour is I don’t look like my father and that way I’ve been able to have my own identity and I think our personalities are also different. My father is busier than me, he does almost 7 films a year so there is not much time for him to give me any kind of guidance. He lets me do my own things and learn from my failures.
Why do you think people relate to films like Karwaan?
It’s the movies that are being made these days are as real as possible and as down to earth as possible and that is what this generation can relate to and it connects the audience. Being real and like one of them is what makes us more relatable.

What are your best memories of road trips from your childhood?
When we went on road trips, I used to love standing in front in between the two seats no matter how much my parents told me to sit down, I wouldn’t do that because I wanted to see what’s going on on the road. I have fallen forward too many a times and my parents keep telling me those stories. Hopefully, my daughter will not do that!
Now this one is really special for me! Introducing #ZoyaFactor a movie based on Anuja Chauhan’s bestseller. Releasing on April 5, 2019! Co-starring @sonamakapoor, directed by #AbhishekSharma. #AdlabsFilms @foxstarhindi pic.twitter.com/1dxzuYYysS

Karwaan was a success and you have Zoya factor coming soon now with Sonam Kapoor, tell us more about it.
Yes I have been very lucky with the kind of films that have been coming my way. It’s a nice change in Zoya Factor from my character Avinash in Karwaan to Nikhil and it’s another interesting script and I am very excited. It’s an adaptation of Anuja Chauhan novel The Zoya Factor but my character Nikhil in the book, is from the North but in the film, he hails from the South but speaks good Hindi.
One best decision you made in life?
To be an actor
If not an actor what would you be?
One thing you would like to change in yourself
Nothing. But yes, I want to get better and I hope my graph is always going up as a person and an actor.
We hope the graph keeps growing for you too!
