Side Effects by The Chainsmokers has just received a cool new music video which stars American actor Camila Mendes, best known for playing the role of Veronica Lodge on the TV series, Riverdale. The new single from the DJ duo also features the vocal talent of frequent collaborator, Emily Warren.
Side Effects is characterized by its killer bass line and its groovy vibe. It will convince you to break into a dance in an instant. The Chainsmokers have also made gentle use of the piano in this track, which adds a lot of charisma to the music.
Emily Warren’s voice is as eccentric as ever, and it particularly shines during the chorus and the bridge. The lyrics, however, have turned out to be pretty unimpressive. In the sense that they are more pop-inclined that what you’d expect from The Chainsmokers.
The lines talk about a girl who is fed up with restrictions and rules and just wants to have fun one evening. But everything keeps leading her to a man she has a crush on. Unable to confront the guy with her feelings, she chooses to dance the night out.
The opening line captures this dilemma of hers aptly. It goes, “It’s 4 AM, I don’t know where to go. Everywhere is closed, I should just go home, yeah. My feet are taking me to your front door. I know I shouldn’t though, heaven only knows.”
The song’s video, which features Riverdale Star Camila Mendes, basically mirrors the lyrics. The actor dons the role of a hotel employee who is told by her boss that she will have to work over the weekend. This prompts her to rip off her uniform and dance her way through various sections of the hotel. The Chainsmokers also make an appearance in this video.
Side Effects is the American duo’s fifth song of this year. It was preceded by Sick Boy, You Owe Me, Everybody Hates Me and Somebody, all of which have been well received by fans. At this moment, they are of course working on their second album, Sick Boy, which will be a follow-up to their immensely popular first album, Memories… Do Not Open.
You can catch the video in the space above. It’s currently blowing up on YouTube, having grabbed more than 6 million views already.
