Which Milk Is The Healthiest Really?

Things were simpler when we were growing up. There was a glass of cow’s Milk at home that you were meant to drink up every day to become healthy and strong. The benefits, we were told, were many.

Drinking cow’s milk was undoubtedly the most important highlight of the morning. In some cases, the contender was buffalo milk. Either way, you had two options, and choosing one was easier.

Switch to now.

Today, take a walk down any grocery store aisle, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by cow’s milk, buffalo’s milk, almond milk, soy milk, lactose-free milk, gluten-free milk, coconut milk, rice milk and so on, and let’s not even go to the fat, no fat, low fat and more variety. Amidst all this chaos, how do you know what you really need?

Which One Is Actually The Healthiest?

A recent Canadian analysis has come out with the results that out of all the variants of milk that are available in the market now, cow’s milk still continues to be the healthiest choice, especially in comparison to the types of milk that are plant based.

Sai Kranthi Kumar Vanga, the study’s author explained that most other types of milk did not contain the kind of nutritional density that is found in cow’s milk, and which can help with overall health with its combination of micro as well as macro nutrients.

Cow’s milk is a good source of protein as well as other important nutrients such as carbohydrates and fat. In some cases, it can also help to ward off respiratory issues as well as fever and mild cold and cough.

Can It Have Adverse Effects?

While it is generally perceived to be healthy, drinking cow’s milk can sometimes increase the risk of salmonella and E.coli infections. Also, some adults continue to be lactose intolerant even in their grown up years, which can pose a health risk.

If you are lactose intolerant, it will be best to consult a doctor who can guide you accordingly. Also, milk such as soy milk or almond milk can also be a good option, but speak to a doctor to know how much quantity is safe to consume.
