Romantic hindi music in the 90s meant soulful, melodious and heart-touching tunes and poignant lyrics. With Valentine’s week already starting off, it’s time we remembered some of the timeless Bollywood love songs once again. If you are a 90s kid, you would probably have all of these tracks in your Romantic songs playlist.
Nazar Ke Samne Jigar Ke Paas – Aashiqui – 1990
Are you thinking of the 2005 Yo Yo Honey Singh’s Mashup version starring Hrithik and Sonam? Well, the popularity of this video song is obviously a lot owing to the original version of it, by Nadeem-Shravan from the movie Aashiqui, which was a massive hit in the 1990. The entire album was hugely popular, and this song was a major milestone in Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal, the playback singers’ lives.
Mera dil bhi kitna paagal hai – Saajan – 1991
This romantic number, from Saajan, was again sung by Kumar Sanu along with Alka Yagnik and was quite popular in 1991. All of the other songs of the album, are praiseworthy.
Pehla nasha – Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar – 1992
You would be lying if you said that this song doesn’t still strike a chord in your heart, every time you listen to it. Udit Narayan and Sadhna Sargam did a splendid job in making this song a huge hit. And we can never forget the cute smiles of Aamir Khan and Ayesha Jhulka in this song.
Ye Haseen Wadiyan – Roja – 1992
How could A. R. Rahman’s music and the voices of S. P. Balasubrahmaniam and K. S. Chithra ever go wrong in creating a romantic ambience. The song can transport you into a dream world every time.
Pehla Pehla Pyaar Hai – Hum Aapke Hain Koun – 1994
This hit song made us believe that S.P. Balasubrahmaniam was perfect as the playback singer for Salman Khan. This song will definitely remind you of your first love!
Ek ladki ko dekha to aisa laga – 1942: A Love Story – 1994
In this romantic number, Kumar Sanu’s voice did wonders again. The beauty of Manisha Koirala and Anil Kapoor’s expressions brought out the romance in it even vividly!
Tujhe dekha to yeh jaana sanam – Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge – 1995
This is such a hit that even the word massive would fall short. This love song also gave us the solid on-screen chemistry of Shakrukh Khan and Kajol.
Tu hi re – Bombay – 1995
In this song, A. R. Rahman’s music wove magic once again along with the voices of Hariharan and Kavita Krishnamurthy. This song has the capacity to make you fall in love once again.
Tum paas aaye – Kuch Kuch Hota Hai – 1998
This was perhaps the perfect love-triangle song of that time. Playback singers Kavita Krishnamurthy, Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan with their fresh voices, and the marvelous performances of Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, got over all the teens of the age!
Chand Chhupa Badal Mein – Hum dil de chuke Sanam – 1999
We could never doubt Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan’s romantic duets. This melodious and soulful number would make you remember the on-screen chemistry of Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai, which gave the youth of the time, solid relationship goals.
That list can go on and on, but give these a listen with your bae and your love life will surely get a different meaning to it!
