Do We Really Need To Be On Social Media When Traveling?

Well, agree or not, Social Media sites with selfies of people on trips, make you yearn to visit that place, they help you judge about the trendy wardrobe during travel, the exact place to visit for that delicious dinner and so much more!

Here’s a dare! Let’s try and be dead for every social media for some times in our lives…believe me, it’s going to be true bliss!

Didn’t you ever want to run away? I bet you have. I bet we all have. Running away isn’t escapism. It is an acceptance and denial at the same time. I’d probably take a trip to the mountains and just camp under a blanket of shimmering stars. Just forget about what life is really like for a while. We all need that, don’t we? To switch off our smart devices and disable them from tracking us down to every corner of the earth!

Like Bunny and Naina, we need to just enjoy the trip and not dance around snowy mountains or trees!

Being on the road is therapeutic and it makes us feel infinite. And every trip I take is important to me because I feel like I can find different pieces of myself in different cities. It may not make sense right now, but it is like standing at the edge of the tallest cliff, shouting and hearing your voice echo like a kind of reply knowing that you aren’t alone. It is like what Bunny says in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, “Main udna chahta hoon, daudna chahta hoon, girna bhi chahta hoon … bus rukna nahi chahta.”

An Open letter to my social media addict travel-mate!

Posts on social media sometimes make me feel like I should be someone else. They make me feel like my life isn’t good enough. I know that friend feels like taking pictures every time we are travelling together or getting high because she just wants to let people know that we are having the time of our lives!

But, dear friend! I’d rather just be in that real moment with you than on the virtual limbo of cyber space. Why should we even have such friends who wouldn’t believe that we trekked for some miles and crashed at a random house in the woods if we don’t upload pictures? I’d rather dance to the crazy beats and check out handsome men than smile at the camera. You know why? Because I value our time together and sure, I’d want to save moments to tell our grandkids about.

So, for now, let’s dance in every sunset, let our feet touch wet blades of grass, let’s feel the wind on our faces when we are drunk in a strange city, with strangers. But it won’t feel weird because I have you. And we will be larger than life for one week of vacation, so that we can go back to our normal boring lives again soon!

I promise you we will post all the pictures and share with the world, but after we have actually lived the moment, after we have tasted happiness in our mouth like its ash. We will smile at the camera because we were ecstatic in that moment and we remember it! We’ll add happy taglines and lovely descriptions. We don’t have to fake it! We need to get the real taste of it first!
